The 13th nationally ranked Georgia College softball team traveled to St. Augustine, Florida this weekend to take on Flagler College in a key conference matchup. The Bobcats, with a record of 9-1 in March, were looking to improve on that and they did so in excellent fashion.

The first game saw a duel of aces, Marisa Boyette for GC and Haleigh Corbally for Flagler. The Bobcats made their mark early, scoring one run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Abi LeRoy, scoring Kristen Brooks. Brooks would later blast a solo shot in the top of the third to give Georgia College the 2-0 lead. But Flagler would strike back scoring their only two runs of the ballgame, (both unearned), in the bottom of the third on a Bobcat throwing error. However the Cats would plate two in the sixth to break the tie and one in the seventh to seal the victory.

Marisa Boyette (13-1) picked up her thirteenth win of the season, pitching the complete game allowing just the two unearned runs on four hits and adding seven strikeouts. Kristen Brooks (1-for-2, RBI, 2 runs scored) and Abi LeRoy (1-for-2, 2 RBIs, run scored) led the Bobcats offensively gathering two of the four hits and three of the five RBIs as GC takes the 5-2 victory.

The second game saw the Bobcats blank the Saints in the run column. Carly Lewis (10-3) was on the mound for GC. Lewis pitched the complete game, getting her tenth win of the season by giving up just five hits and striking out six in a 7-0 shutout victory.

Abi LeRoy’s first game success carried over to the second game as she would go 1-for-3 with two more RBIs to add to her total. Holland Coursey also lit up the RBI column as she would go 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. Both of the sole hits for each player came on a homerun. The Bobcats outhit the Saints nine to five and secured the series sweep.

#13 Georgia College improves their record to 26-4 overall and 5-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. Their next game will be Tuesday, March 17 as they travel to Brevard for a non-conference doubleheader.
