Atlanta–The Football Coaches of the Southern Intercollegiate Conference met in Atlanta this week for their annual Kickoff luncheon . Albany State and Tuskegee were selected as preseason favorites to win their division and advance to the S.I.A.C. Championship Game.
Coach Mike White’s Albany State Rams are followed by Fort Valley State,Morehouse,Benedict and Clark-Atlanta in the preseason East Division standings.
Coach Willie Slater’s Tuskegee Tigers are followed by Miles, Stillman, Kentucky,Lane, and Central State in the preseason West Division standings.
Also in attendance was Paine College Head Coach Greg Ruffin. Ruffin’s job is to revive a long dormant program to Paine and bring college football to the Augusta area. Augusta loves college football, but has not had a team. That will change in the fall of 2014 when the Lions take the field.
Fort Valley State legend, two-time Super Bowl Champion and recent Division II Hall Of Famer Tyrone Poole was guest speaker for the luncheon. Poole watched his alma mater fall to Tuskegee in the S.I.A.C. Championship Game last year. This year’s Championship game will be Saturday,November 16, at Atlanta’s Lakewood Stadium.
