After an amazing 2021 season, the Golden Rams (9-2, 7-0 SIAC) fell to UWG Wolves (9-2) on November 20th in the NCAA Division II Playoffs. The Golden Rams capped off their season with many impressive wins and overcame an unfortunate tragedy and still dominated. Every year since Coach Gabe Giardina has been with Albany State the football team has done better than the season before. There are even rumors that this trend will continue next year, so keep your eyes open and watch them.
The Golden Rams accumulated 287 total offensive yards by running the ball for 154 yards and Dionte Bonneau threw the ball for 133 yards (15comp, 36att, 1INT). The Wolves got 323 total yards by running for 113 yards, plus Harrison Frost threw the ball for 210 yards (20comp, 36att,1INT).
Coemba Jones led the ASU defense with 9 total tackles, with 6 of them being solo tackles. Arinze Okwu had eight tackles, six solo and two assists. Stephan Pierre finished the game with 7 tackles. Kadarius Satterwhite got one interception. Deontae Overstreet had 11 tackles to lead the UWG defensive effort, followed by Damarcus Robins with eight stops. Tay Huff took a fumble recovery in from 76 yards out for the score.
