ASU Baseball Starts the Season Off Swinging

Albany State University baseball season has begun and the Golden Rams are off to a hot start. The boys are 5-2 (3-0 conference) thus far, and currently have a 4 game winning streak going for them. The reason for this current win streak is how well the Golden Rams have swung the bat. Over the course of this 4 game stretch they have tallied 57 runs, 51 hits, and they have also forced 27 walks. The best players swinging the bat for this team so far have been sophomore infielder Hill Corley and sophomore outfielder Chase Karn. These two guys are tops on the team in every major hitting category such as average, OPS (On Base Plus Slugging), OB%(On Base Percentage), total bases, RBI’s, and slugging percentage.

These two players as well as the whole team looks to keep the hot bats rolling into their three game home weekend series against a SIAC conference opponent in the Lane College Dragons. The Dragons have struggled this season so far and are still searching for their first win on the season, they will enter this series with an 0-11 record. The Golden Rams will look to increase their current win streak throughout the weekend series as well as look to improve to 6-0 in conference play.  With Hill Corley’s and Chase Karn’s bats on fire I expect them to produce at a high level against a team who is struggling to stop the opposing team from scoring. Lane’s pitching so far this season has been subpar ,to say the least. Lane will enter the three game weekend slate with a team ERA (Earned Run Average) of 11.16 while allowing 132 hits, 84 walks, and an opposing batting average of .353 in just 11 games. I expect the Golden Rams bats to stay scorching  and this will lead them to not only win the series, but most likely sweep the series.

These two conference foes will square off twice on Saturday February 25 @ 1PM and 4PM, then they will round off the series Sunday February 26 @ 11PM. All of the games will be played on Albany State’s west campus baseball fields in Albany, Georgia.
