After yet another week of wins, the Augusta University men’s basketball team is ranked No. 6 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Poll released on Tuesday afternoon.
“We are slowly moving up the national ranking. Hopefully we will continue to play meaningful games in February as season progresses,” said head coach Dip Metress.
This past Wednesday, Augusta opened the week of competition with a come from behind 81-78 win over the Lander University Bearcats. On Saturday, the team traveled to Columbus State and sealed a 76-66 PBC victory to remain the only unbeaten team in conference play.
On Monday, senior center Tyshaun Crawford was named to the Top 100 Watch List for the 2023 Bevo Francis Award, announced today by the Small College Basketball and the National Awards Committee.
Crawford has guided the Jaguars to a 15-1 overall record with his 20.8 points per game, a mark that places him first in the Peach Belt Conference and 17th among Division II scorers. Crawford also tops the conference in field goals and field goal percentage (69.8 %). He is currently second of all conference players in minutes per game at 33:07, second only to teammate Miguel Arnold. Crawford is second in the conference in blocks (2.13 BPG) and second in rebounds (9.2 rebounds per game). He leads the conference in offensive rebounding (4.27 per game).
He has led the Jaguars scoring in 11 of the 16 games so far this season and had a team-high six double-doubles. A preseason All-Conference selection, Crawford has been a constant and consistent force for Augusta.
