This past weekend, September 20 and 21, the Georgia Southern Volleyball team hosted its Bash in the Boro tournament, with Central Michigan, Jackson State, and Charleston Southern Universities attending. The Eagles began their weekend play Friday night against the Central Michigan Chippewas. The first set had an explosive start, with the Chippewas cutting off the Eagles’ middle hitters. Sophomore setter Katalin Minnerly responded to this defensive by incorporating the Southern outside attack in her offense strategy. Throughout the evening, there was a total 41 kills from the Eagles, 13 from Senior Nicole Jeschelnik and 11 from Junior Jamie DeRatt. Alongside their impressive offense for the night, the Eagles pulled ahead with several key serves. The Eagles finished their first match 3-0 over the Chippewas and moved on to Jackson State University Saturday afternoon.
After playing one of her first full games of the season, Sophomore Christina Vereb recorded 15 kills, five digs and two blocks leading the Eagles to victory over Jackson State.
Saturday night GSU faced off against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. DeRatt posted a career-high 20 kills and Jeschelnik was named to the all-tournament team along with Sophomore Crysten Curry. Sophomore Katie Bange was named as the tournament MVP after scoring 15 kills Saturday. The Eagles (12-2) brought home their fourth consecutive in-season tournament title.
