Junior Shivani Beall (Atlanta, GA) recorded the first hat trick by an Emory University Women’s Soccer player since November 16th, 2013 to lead the Eagles to a 4-0 victory over Covenant College Wednesday night in the final non-conference matchup of the regular season. The three-goal performance is the second multi-goal game for Beall this season and just the third of her career.
Beall started the scoring with her first of the night in the 26th minute, blasting home the perfectly executed cross across the six from sophomore Caroline Moore (Marlborough, MA). Sophomore Linsdey Breskow (Brentwood, TN) added to Emory’s tally eight minutes later in the 33rd, as she fired in a shot from just over 25 yards out. A loose ball found Breskow all alone following a corner kick by senior Nikki Batt (Ashburn, VA), allowing her to launch a shot from distance that went just off the hand of the diving Covenant keeper.
The score remained 2-0 until Beall put the finishing touches on the Scots with back-to-back goals moments apart in the 83rd and 85th minutes. Beall’s second marker was set up as junior Caroline Kolski (Miami, FL) found a streaking Madison Phaneuf (Leesburg, VA) on the right side of the field. Phaneuf took several dribbles in space before crossing it to Beall who finished with ease off her left foot.
Two minutes and 26 seconds later, Beall found the back of the net again as her third goal was nearly identical to her first two. This time, Kolski outran several Covenant defenders on the right side before finding Beall at the top of the six where Beall put it past the keeper with her right to round out the hat trick.
Emory was in full control of the match from the get-go, outshooting the Scots 32-2 and putting 21 shots on goal. The Eagles also earned 14 corners compared to the Scots’ one.
The Eagles will be off until Friday, October 26th when the team returns to action against Carnegie Mellon University in the first of three UAA matches to close out the regular season.
