The East Carolina Pirates have set sail and are now currently in Birmingham Alabama preparing for the Birmingham Bowl this Saturday, January, 3rd against the Florida Gators.
East Carolina finished the regular season at 8-4 (AAC), while Florida finished 6-5 (SEC). The Pirates arrived in Alabama with a full week of scheduled events. The Pirates toured Alabama’s football team athletic facilities, attended a couple of events with the opposing team such as bowling, lunch, and a comedy show.
But, we will see who has the last laugh on game day. The last time the Pirates and Gators met was back in 1983. The Pirates lost 24-17 but are hoping to get the “W” this weekend on Legion Field.
A 2015 win would be a great way to start the year for East Carolina and a great end of the season for the seniors of this team after the way senior night went.
Florida has had a tough season and with the strength of ECU’s offense I wouldn’t turn the other cheek on this Pirate team. East Carolina is third in the country in passing yards.
However, it is not without some adversity that the pirates will be playing this Saturday. Two key players will not be active in this game. Terry “Swamp Monster” Williams, senior top nose tackle, did not make the trip to Alabama due to a non football related incident. The Pirates did have time to practice and get prepared without Williams before they left for Alabama.
Pirates star running back, senior, Breon Allen will not be playing in this bowl game either due to a leg injury that occurred in Alabama during bowl game practice.
Weather could also be a factor that could affect this game. The forecast isn’t exactly looking like sunshine will be arriving at this bowl game.
But, what’s a football game without a little adversity?
Pirate Nation is pumped again to be facing the challenge of an SEC team. ECU fans have sold more tickets to this game than Florida has as of now, so a big fan base will be at the game supporting the boys.
We are looking forward to ending this game on a high note and we will give them no quarter!
