Southern Miss was predicted to finish fifth in the Conference USA West Division, according to the league’s 13 coaches on Wednesday in the C-USA Football preseason poll.
Since the conference split into two divisions before the 2005 season, the Golden Eagles played in the East division. However, this year, Southern Miss joined the West division.
The West division includes North Texas, Rice, University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Louisiana Tech and University of Texas at El Paso. Meanwhile, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky, Old Dominion, University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and Florida International University makeup the Eastern division.
Aug. 29 kicks off the 2014 C-USA Football season with a pair of non-conference games,
Marshall was predicted to win the East division while North Texas was predicted to win the West division.
