Clayton State Senior golfer Andres Caballero delivered a strong start to the 2018-19 season at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational on Tuesday, September 25th. As a team, Clayton State shot a 293-294-298-885 to tie for 14-of-17.
Going against players from eight nationally ranked programs and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Lynn, Caballero tied for 16th out of 88 golfers. Over the course of 54 holes he shot a 71-70-71-212 to finish one under par.
Junior Joseph Kim was the next highest finisher in a tie for 58th after shooting a 71-76-77-224. Freshman Javier Gonzalez followed in a tie for 61st with a 77-73-75-225 and senior Nick Woof was tied for 66th (74-75-78-227). Senior Fran Hernandez rounded things out in 79th (77-80-75-232).
No. 16 Carson Newman won the tournament with a score of 843, finishing three strokes ahead of No. 4 Florida Southern (846), while Valdosta State was third at 849. This year’s field featured a total of eight nationally ranked teams, including five in the Top-10.
