As the Reinhardt Eagles head into their second season of Mid-South Conference NAIA football, they will be opening with Mercer University. The game will take place this Thursday August 28th in Macon, GA at 7:00 P.M.

Reinhardt and Mercer battled it out last August in both team’s first ever college football game. With high expectations, the Eagles and Bears managed to deliver an exciting game with a nail biting finish. While the underdog Reinhardt squad played well in last year’s season opener, the orange jerseys of Mercer came out on top. Following a late Eagles score, the game ended in a 40-37 loss for Reinhardt when Mercer kicked a last-second field goal. Mercer wrapped up their 2013 season with an overall record of 10-2 and a 6-2 record for their Conference. The Eagles ended their 2013 season with an overall 6-4 record and a 5-1 record in Conference play.

Reinhardt’s biggest problem last year was starting off slow each game. Struggling to get a jump start, RU put up a strong fight and progressed throughout the season. When Reinhardt played Mercer last year, the Eagles had problems offensively scoring in the red zone. Defensively, the squad gave up the deep ball multiple times. Thursday, Reinhardt will concentrate on containing the Mercer quarterback John Russ because he is a scrambler. The Bears rushing attack may be a challenge for RU’s front seven. However, the Reinhardt football team has worked hard to prepare themselves during their pre-season training. Mercer may pack a large punch but the Eagles have put a lot of time and sweat into getting bigger, better, faster and stronger.

On Thursday night the Eagles and Bears meet for a second time. Question is will the Bears triumph again, or will our Reinhardt Eagles come out seeking revenge? Be there at Mercer University Stadium and see for yourself.
