East Carolina recently hosted the second annual Bill Carson Invitational. This was the only meet the Pirates will be having at home for the year. “First is the worst, second is the best”, thats the old saying right? Well, as a bias Pirate fan I believe this to be true. Both men’s and women’s track placed second behind South Carolina.
However, there were individual victories to be held. Here are some Pirate highlights from the meet…
Senior Tania Minkins set a personal record in the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45.
Junior Cheyenne Hutchinson ran a 13.34 during the women’s 100-meter hurdles which tied the school record.
Jorge Montes broke the 3,000 meter record by 10 seconds. Earning him a time of 8:33.45.
Graduate Henry Johnson broke his pole vaulting record of 5.17 by half an inch making his new record 5.18.
Aside from the amount of records broken men’s track won 3 events while women’s track won 8 events.
Senior Kaylee Redon placed first in the hammer throw with a distance of 60.50 meters. Mohogany Baker earned herself second place with a distance of 49.65 meters.
Senior Alexander Mobley won the long jump with a distance of 22-10.00.
Junior Avion Jones won the high jump on his 3rd attempt with a height of 7 feet 2 inches. 2 inches shy of his personal best. However, his performance throughout the season has earned him a Goldpys nomination which is an award show for ECU athletes.
