Led by rounds of 71 from juniors Josh Edgar and Egill Gunnarsson, the Georgia State men’s golf team shot a final round 1-over 289 to finish in 12th place at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers finished the 54-hole event at 18-over par in their next-to-last event of the fall season.
Gunnarsson made five birdies in the final round to finish the two day event at 1-over par and tied for 35th. Edgar garnered four birdies on Sunday to finish tied for 48th at 3-over par.
“Really proud of the way our guys played the final round,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We played a lot better than we did yesterday. We have some work to do this week to get ready for our final event of the fall, but hopefully we can use some of today’s momentum as we return home.”
Sophomore Owen Sertl added a final 2-over 74 that included four birdies to finish tied for 67th at 9-over par, while senior Nathan Williams added a 1-over 73 to tie for 73rd at 11-over par.
Senior Nick Budd rounded out the line-up with a 4-over 76 and tied for 70th at 10-over par.
Freshman Frederik Hedmark who is competing as an individual this week shot a final round 2-under 70 to finish the weekend at 3-over par and tied for 48th.
Host NC State shot a final round 18-under 270 to finish at 31-under par and earn a seven-stroke win. Jacksonville finished in second place at 24-under par with UNC Greensboro coming in third at 18-under par. Campbell placed fourth at 17-under par as East Carolina rounded out the top five at 14-under par.
NC State’s Benjamin Shipp shot a final round 8-under 64 to finish at 13-under and earn a two-stroke win. UNC Greensboro’s Jonathan Brightwell finished in second place at 11-under while East Carolina’s Blake Taylor and Jacksonville’s Michael Sakane tied for third at 10-under par. Jacksonville’s Eduardo Carrette finished in fifth place at 9-under par.
Georgia State will close out the fall season Oct. 15-16, hosting the Autotrader Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga.
