Chattanooga, Tenn. — The Elon Phoenix tennis program departs from the Southern Conference on top. In its final season as a SoCon member, both the Men’s and Women’s tennis teams were able to win the conference tournament and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
The men entered the tournament as the #1 seed having run through regular season conference play undefeated. They defeated Chattanooga in their first match 4-0, Appalachian State in their second match 4-0, and finished off the unblemished SoCon season with a 4-1 victory over Furman
The women entered the tournament as the #4 seed going 6-3 in regular season conference play. They defeated UNCG first round 4-0, #1 seeded Furman 4-3 in their second match, and #2 Samford 4-2 in the finals.
The win by the men’s team marks the second ever conference tournament championship and first since 2007. As for the women, it was their first ever SoCon tournament championship.
