The 2015-2016 bowl season was less dramatic than in previous years. With the National Championship game looming, the stage is set for the casual basketball fan to begin getting acquainted with teams that might find themselves in the NCAA tournament. Fortunately, the state of Georgia has many options to give the casual and die hard basketball fan the outlet he or she desires. Although the following list contains teams not eligible for the NCAA tournament, the list affords fans of basketball the option to watch programs in the state of Georgia:
- University of North Georgia
- Georgia State Southwestern
- Clayton State
- Georgia College
- Middle Georgia State College
- East Georgia State College
- South Georgia State College
- University of West Georgia
- Valdosta State
- Shorter College
- Kennesaw State University
- Columbus State
- Savannah State University
- Young Harris College
- Augusta University
- Gordon State College
- Albany State
- Morehouse College
- Clark Atlanta University
- University of Georgia
- Georgia Tech University
- Georgia State University
Surprised? To be honest, I probably left a few schools off the list. The list confirms basketball is proven and alive all across the state. For instance, Saturday, January 9th, the (10-1) Columbus State Cougars play the (10-3) Georgia College Bobcats at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center in Columbus, GA. Watch how good Terrell Harris, (23.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 4.6 apg) performs against Cam Baker (18.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.7 apg). This is just one game out of a handful of notable matchups this weekend. Georgia State University (8-3), a NCAA Cinderella last year plays a (5-8) South Alabama squad Saturday at 2:30pm at the GSU Sports Arena. We all know about Georgia Tech and University of Georgia, these are games where ESPN or other media sports outlets won’t highlight the smaller schools. Sit back, relax and enjoy the next three months of college hoops. Drive to a game and experience the true essence of a hundred year old sport which seems to improve and baffle us each and every year.
