The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 67-56 to win the SEC Championship outright for the first time in school history. Sophomore guard Tiffany Mitchell led the Gamecocks with a game-high 25 points. Mitchell, and Freshman Alaina Coates combined to score 43 of the Gamecock’s 67 points. After the game, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive was on hand to present the team with the SEC Championship trophy. Athletic Director Ray Tanner, Head Coach Dawn Staley, and Sophomore Aleghsa Welch each addressed the crowd as well. Afterwords, a special video tribute played on the video board at Colonial Life Arena. A crowd of almost 12,500 was on hand to watch the team’s final home game of the season before the Gamecocks head to Tennessee to take on the Lady Volunteers for their regular season finale Sunday. Mitchell was recently added to the Wade Watch List, an award given to the nation’ most outstanding NCAA women’s basketball player each year.
