On a clear Saturday night in a sold out Sanford Stadium, the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the No. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 23-17
During the first half of the game, it appeared that the Bulldogs had trouble getting the ball down the field and keeping up enough momentum to score on drives. This game marked the first time this season that Georgia did not score on the opening drive. Notre Dame led for more than half of the game, until the Bulldogs took the lead 13-7 late in the third quarter.
Notre Dame’s defense was a key factor in the physical showdown. They recorded 65 tackles which contributed to Georgia’s inability to score until late in the first half and the stagnancy of the score for the majority of the game.
Key players for the Bulldogs in Saturday night’s game were quarterback Jake Fromm and kicker Rodrigo Blankenship. Fromm completed 20 out of 26 passes and scored one touchdown in the second half. This is an improvement from Fromm’s first game as a freshman against the Fighting Irish in 2017 where he completed 16 out 29 passes after subbing in for former Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason.Blankenship, who was recently named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season, contributed to three of Georgia’s five scoring plays. He recorded 11 points, with three field goals and two kicks for extra points.
The Georgia Bulldogs will have a bye this week and then pick up where they left off in Neyland Stadium v. Tennessee on Oct. 5, 2019
