With the season opener just four weeks away, the 2022 Georgia State football team opened preseason camp with its first official team practice Friday morning at Center Parc Stadium.
With a veteran squad that features 18 returning starters, including players on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team, Georgia State opens the season at South Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Georgia State’s home opener is Saturday, Sept. 10 vs. North Carolina at 12 noon as the Tar Heels will be the first Power 5 program to play on the Panthers’ home field. The home schedule also features a Thursday night game against Coastal Carolina (Sept. 22), the annual rivarly game vs. Georgia Southern (Oct. 8) and the Homecoming game vs. Old Dominion (Oct. 29).
More than 100 players took the field for Friday’s practice, each looking to help the Panthers build on their success of last season, when the Panthers won a school-record eight games, capped by a dominating 52-10 win over Ball State in the TaxAct Camellia Bowl for the program’s second straight bowl victory.
Under sixth-year head coach Shawn Elliott, Georgia State enters the 2022 season having won four straight games and seven of the last eight.
