University of Georgia’s freshman goalkeeper Emory Wegener has been named SEC Freshman of the Week after last week’s 3-1 win over Arkansas. Wegener made 5 saves and only conceded on a penalty kick 7 minutes from time in her first conference game as a Bulldog.
The St. Pius X graduate has started all 9 games for Georgia, registering 44 saves and keeping three clean sheets so far.
While at St. Pius, Wegener won the 2015, 2016, and 2017 GHSA State Championships as well as being named the SEC Player to Watch for this season.
Wegener and the Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday at home against the Missouri Tigers at 7 PM. The game will be played at the Turner Soccer Complex and admission is free. They will also play their first SEC road game on Sunday at Texas A&M.
