What a weekend it was for the Albany State Lady Rams as they were able to sweep the Allen University Yellow Jackets in a 3-game series. This moves the Lady Rams to 21-11 on the season and 14-5 in the SIAC. The bats were a big help this weekend as they pushed across 32 runs in the three games. The team exploded in game 2 on Friday as they scored a season high 19 runs. The Lady Rams had a couple of 4 rbi days during Fridays doubleheader by sophomore Madison Hurts and senior Glory Seay who also added a homer to her stat line. Seay is having an impressive senior outing for Albany State this season as she leads the team in RBI’s (21), Home runs (2), and SLG%(.505). She has been key contributor to the team throughout the entirety of the season.
That is now 6 consecutive wins for Albany State against Allen, but now they will set their sights on Georgia Southwestern for a doubleheader Tuesday April 18. Then the Lady Rams will face their bitter rival Fort Valley State in a 3 game weekend series to round off the conference schedule. These next few conference games are big for the Lady Rams as they currently sit at second in the east just behind Edward Waters. While they will need some help to take the one spot, Albany State will need to win these games against Fort Valley who currently sits third in the east division right behind the Lady Rams. With the SIAC playoffs right around the corner every game grows in significance.
The season is winding down and that means things are heating up in the SIAC. The excitement and expectations will rise as the games get bigger and more intense. I am excited to see how this team will do in post season action and what key contributors will step up in the big moments.
