After a tough three game series against Edward Waters , the Albany State Golden Rams softball team will look to get back on track. The Lady Rams lost two of three games by only one run. They haven’t played bad as of late but everybody on that team knows they are capable of much more. The offense for the Golden Rams was pedestrian this weekend only able to push across 6 runs through the three games. Now, they will now set their sights on the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University Friday March 31st and Saturday April 1st.
The Lady Rams will enter the series with a 16-10 record with a 9-4 SIAC conference record. The teams in conference record would place them in second place in the east division as of right now, with Edward Waters taking the first spot. ASU will play 9 more SIAC conference games to round off the season. Having the number one seed come tournament time is very advantageous to the team that holds it. For them to bounce back from this current 3 game skid they will need key contributors to step up big going down the stretch.
Contributors such as sophomore Morgan Brown, who leads the team in Average, OB%, and Slugging. Morgan will be entering the remaining games sporting a .413 avg, .492 SLG%, and a .940 OPS. She is also the leader in home runs with one big fly on the season and is tops in runs batted in as well with 11 . Madison Hurt has also put on an impressive showing so far this season. She has collected the most bags this season stealing 13 out of 14 bases as well as leading in hits with 30, all while sporting a .395 avg, an OPS of .892, and a .472 SLG%. These are some of the hitters that will need to step up, rounding up the final series of the regular season. Great pitching will have to come from sophomore Trista Murphy who has been the work horse of the rotation pitching 46.2 innings this season. Another is sophomore Romona Mcleod who has been very solid this season as well.
The Lady Rams will have this upcoming weekend off and will not play any games their next game will be played in 8 days on March 31st at Clark Atlanta. I’m excited to see how the Golden Rams perform in this upcoming slate of games.
