GSU vs. GSU: the battle for who truly owns the real title in this state. On October 25, 2014, the moment college football fans have waited for will finally take place inside the Georgia Dome. Georgia Southern University will travel to Atlanta to compete against Georgia State University. Football fans will not want to miss this epic battle.
Students, fans, alum and even those unaffiliated with either institution will never be able to decide which university deserves the title of GSU. Although Georgia State’s athletic department has been competing at a higher level for a longer period of time, Georgia Southern’s program, especially the football team, continues to prove itself and make a name for the program in the FBS.
With a 4-0 record in the Sunbelt and their first season as an FBS team, Southern looks to continue making history at their next away game. At this 2 p.m. game, Georgia Southern’s football program will go head to head with one of their biggest rivalries in the Sunbelt (and the state). Georgia State has an 0-3 record at the moment in the Sunbelt, but that does not mean Southern can take their competition lightly.
Like fans, Southern football players, coaches, and staff have been preparing for this game all season. The hype behind this in-state rivalry will thrill fans at the Dome as the battle for the real GSU takes place in under two weeks. Georgia sports can thank these two programs for providing yet another great in-state rivalry, in addition to Georgia Tech and University of Georgia.
Many Southern fans and players will be traveling back to their hometown of Atlanta to compete, but their true blue mentality will shine when kick-off begins. As the Falcons also compete in this venue, players will have possibly a once in a lifetime experience to compete in the Georgia Dome in front of hundreds of thousands of fans. The entire Georgia Southern community waits anxiously for their team’s performance in Atlanta, and both programs will fight until the last second for the ability to bring home a win, as well as the title of THE REAL GSU.
