ITTA BENA, Mississippi- The Jackson State Tigers traveled to compete against the MVSU Delta Devils on Saturday Oct 30, 2021 at the Rice-Totten Stadium in ITTA BENA.
Coach Deion Sanders was sidelined for Saturdays’ game against Valley. He is still following doctor’s order from having foot surgery. Coach Sanders has appointed running backs coach Gary Harrell as the interim Coach while he’s out recovering.
This is the second win in a row for the Tigers under Coach Harrell after defeating Bethune-Cookman last week. The Tigers struggled a bit in the beginning as they were having trouble running the ball to their potential. As a result The Delta Devils were able to hang around much longer than expected ,with the Tigers clinging to a 7-6 lead going into halftime.
Shedeur Sanders, who came into the game having thrown just one interception all season, threw two in the second half. He also threw three touchdowns, including a 74-yard touchdown pass to fellow freshman Trevonte Rucker. Sanders, who was recently named to the Jerry Rice Award watchlist for the top freshman in FCS football, has 20 touchdowns against three interceptions on the season.
In the fourth quarter, C.J. Holmes became the third player on the Jackson State defense to get their first interception of the season against Mississippi Valley State. Holmes’ interception came with less than four minutes remaining and sealed the 28-19 JSU victory. Jackson State improved to 7-1 and 5-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with the victory .
The Jackson State Tigers will compete against the Texas Southern Tigers at the Veteran’s Memorial Stadium November 6, 2021 @1pm.
