Jackson, MS- The Jackson State Tigers hosted Prairie View- A&M in the SWAC Championship Game at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Jackson,Ms. This is the first time since 2007 that the Tigers played in the SWAC Championship game. They will be heading to Atlanta, GA for the Cricket Celebration Bowl!!!
The crowd of 50,128 saw the Tigers started out slow with the Panthers taking a 7-0 lead, but it didn’t take JSU long to get on the board and stay on top.
With less than four minutes to go in the first quarter, the Panthers scored when Ty Holden found Jailon Howard in the end zone for the TD.Jackson State’s defensive back Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig hit a diving grab to intercept a pass from Prairie View A&M quarterback Jawon Pass in the first quarter.
Jackson State cornerback Isaiah Bolden picked a good time to have his second kickoff return touchdown of the Tigers’ 2021 season. In the second quarter, Bolden received a kickoff and ran 91 yards into the end zone relatively untouched. The score gave Jackson State a 13-10 lead at halftime.
The Tigers were in the lead for the remainder of the game and defeated the Panthers 27-10. Jackson State (11-1, 9-0 SWAC) claimed its first conference title since 2007 with the victory. The Tigers have won nine games in a row and will play in the 2021 Cricket Celebration Bowl against South Carolina State, the winner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The game will be played at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 18 and will be televised on ABC.
