What a season it has been so far for the Albany State University Golden Rams Baseball team. They have been performing at an extremely high level since the beginning of the season. The offense has been the driving force of the team so far, having scored more than 10 runs in over half of their games this season. The team is currently first in the SIAC conference standings with a 18-5 record and 16-1 in conference record. The record speaks for itself the Golden Rams have been playing really good baseball and have one of the most prolific offenses in all of division 2.
The whole team has been swinging the bat well, but a few standouts this season have been Chase Karn, Hill Corley, and Lavoisier Fisher. Karn has an astounding .464 batting average, 32 hits, and 28 runs batted in on the season. Hill Corley also has a average above .400 sitting at .403 and 22 runs batted in, but the biggest bat this season for the Rams has undoubtedly been junior Lavoisier Fisher. Fisher has been punishing the baseball this season, crushing 11 long balls so far. He is also the team leader in RBI’s (36), slugging (.867%), and OPS (1.362%) all while posting a .386 batting average. These three players have helped carry this Golden Rams team and put them in a great position to win the regular season conference title.
The bats stayed hot this weekend as well when they took on Benedict College in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Golden Rams were able to push across 36 runs and tally 5 homers in Saturday’s doubleheader. Now, their sights will be set on Clark Atlanta University in a 3 game weekend series in Albany, Georgia. The Golden Rams come into this series having won 14 straight against the Panthers with them scoring 10 or more runs in 9 of those previous games. I expect to see more of the same in this series considering how extremely good this offense has been throughout the year.
