The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team(4-8, 0-1) continued their conference play at home against Florida Gulf Coast University(13-1, 2-0). FGCU is not only a powerhouse in the ASUN, but also nationwide. The Eagles out of Florida have attempted and made more 3-pointers than any other Division-1 program in the country. Due to COVID-19 protocols, KSU only had 7 players out of the 14. However, they held their own weight in the matchup.
The first half saw some players really step up. Junior guard Gillian Piccolino really impressed on both ends of the court. The Owls were beating the Eagles in field goal percentage, but fell short. This was because FGCU did what they are known for, sinking threes. This allowed the Eagles to rack up more points than Kennesaw State. The teams went into the half with FGCU leading 49-35, At this point, the score was still very manageable for KSU to come out with a win.
Kennesaw State is known for being a second half dominant team, but FGCU diminished their energy after the break. The Owls were just not able to find their footing against the Eagles. KSU, with all the obstacles put up a great fight against the ASUN competitor. The matchup ended with a final score of 100-65, a win for the Eagles out of Fort Myers, Florida.
The KSU women’s basketball team will be back in action on January 15th at Stetson. Tipoff is set for 1 pm, as the Owls hope to get their first conference win.
