The Kennesaw State softball team won its opening ASUN Conference series of the season after splitting a doubleheader with Liberty Saturday at Bailey Park.
The Owls (17-14, 2-1) won the opener 5-4 before falling 11-3 to Flames (17-11, 1-2) in the nightcap. Kennesaw State captured Friday’s series opener, 3-2.
For the second game in a row, Kennesaw State rallied from a deficit after falling behind 3-0 in the fourth inning. A two-run bottom half of the fourth and three-run fifth inning was enough for senior right-hander Hailey Andrews (9-7), who record a win for the second day in a row.
The Owls received solid production from the middle of their lineup, as the two through five hitters combined to go 9-for-13 with five runs scored and four RBIs. Senior Maddie Roth led the 10-hit attack with three hits and two runs scored.
Junior Jade Lee went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while senior Kira Czyrklis had two hits and a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Lexi Solorzanoalso collected a pair of safeties and RBI.
Andrews scattered 10 hits over seven innings while allowing four runs, walking six and striking out five.
In the nightcap, Kennesaw State fell victim to the big inning as Liberty recorded a four-run fourth inning and five-run sixth to put the game away.
The Owls are back in action next Saturday (March 23) when they host Florida Gulf Coast in an ASUN Conference doubleheader at Bailey Park. First pitch is 1 p.m.
