The only word to explain the women’s Auburn vs Kennesaw State basketball game is “exciting”. The first quarter was extremely slow for the KSU Owls, and the Tigers were in the lead 21-13. Seniors, Amani Johnson and Alexis Poole, were the only Owls to put points on the board during the first quarter. Poole and Johnson are co-captains, and they really took the lead against Auburn.
The second quarter was even worse for KSU as they were held to only 4 points by the intense Auburn defense. The AU offense did not let up either as they tacked on 19 points. The two teams went into the half break with a score of 32-17, and it was not looking great for the Owls.
Poole and Johnson continued to show off their talents in the third quarter, and other members of the team started to step up, but it was not enough. The Owls needed to outscore the Tigers to put themselves in a good position to win.
Kennesaw was a completely different team in the fourth period of the game. They did not allow Auburn to put points on the board while they added up 13 points. The lead for AU was brought down to 6 with about 4 minutes to go. This was incredible after being down 26 points in the third quarter. Auburn started to get their head back in the game and finished out the match 66-54 over the Owls.
During this game, Kennesaw State proved they do not let up even when it is not looking good for them. Even though the comeback did not follow all the way through, the Owls tightened the score, and showed they can be a threat to SEC teams as well.
Kennesaw State will take a break for Christmas, and on December 29th will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to match up with Samford University. Tip off is set for 7 p.m., and the Owls are hopefully to keep their energy up for a win against the Bulldogs.
