Kennesaw State redshirt freshman Tiffany Sornpao was named the ASUN Conference women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday (Sept, 5).
Sornpao’s play helped the Owls record a pair of 1-0 victories over Morehead State and Samford last weekend. She totaled 11 saves, including a career-high 10 versus Samford on Sunday.
The Berkeley, Ga. native has made four career starts, all coming in Kennesaw State’s last four matches and has not allowed a goal. Sornpao’s 0.00 goals-against average is tied for first in the country.
Sornpao has helped Kennesaw State open the year 4-0-2, marking the first time KSU has been unbeaten through six matches since the 2003 team opened 8-0 en route to the NCAA Division II national championship.
The Owls also have posted four straight shutouts for the first time since the 2009 season. The program record for consecutive shutouts is eight set in 2003, and Division I record is five accomplished in 2006.
Sornpao is the scond KSU player to earn ASUN Conference Defender of the Week accolades this season as Abby Roth was recognized with the honor on Aug. 28.
Kennesaw State returns to Fifth Third Bank Stadium on Thursday (Sept. 7) when it hosts Alabama at 7 p.m. The evening will also mark Fan Appreciation Night with the first 300 fans receiving a KSU tank top. Admission is free and those unable to attend can watch the match on ESPN3.
