The Georgia State Women’s soccer team look to bounce back this weekend after going on a 3-match losing streak, including back-to-back losses to SEC opponents Georgia & Vanderbilt last weekend. The Lady Panthers (2-5-1) open Sun Belt conference play on Friday night against in-state rival Georgia Southern before hosting defending conference champion South Alabama. Both games will be played at the GSU Soccer Complex in Decatur.
Georgia State enters this weekend ranked third in the Sun Belt conference in both total shots with 85 and total corner kicks with 35. Junior Brooke Shank (Cedar Park, TX) leads the team in goals scored (3), total points (6), total shots (17), and shots on goal (8).
Georgia Southern (2-5-0) returns to the pitch after a 1-0 defeat to a rampant Kennesaw State last Friday. The Eagles enter Friday’s match ranked fifth in the conference in goals allowed with 11 and haven’t conceded more than one goal in their last three matches.
South Alabama (2-5-0) aims to snap its five-game losing streak with a victory at Georgia State. Their Friday night matchup against Appalachian State was postponed due to Hurricane Florence. The Jaguars head into the weekend ranked third in the Sun Belt in total goals with nine and second in total corner kicks with 31. Preseason Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Godfrey is tied for first on the team in goals scored with two.
