Let’s just say the University of Kentucky softball team taking the NCAA tournament (Super-Regionals) by storm was not surprising; especially considering their overall winning record of 49-17. Kentucky is a veteran team with 8 starters that returned from last season.Having more experienced players put them in a great position to start the season off strong. Senior Lauren Combess has lead the team in RBI’s, home runs and hits. She has lead the way to many Wildcat victories over the duration of this season.
Also, players like sophomore infielder Nikki Sagermann have played at vital role in the team’s success. Nikki says “she feels it is important that the team keep in mind ,they aren’t done yet”. She believes that the team has made it as far as it has for a reason and deserves to be a National Champion team. Nikki says “If we stay on the attack offensively and play solid defense like we did against UCLA, then I believe there will be good results”. Nikki’s motto is “keep it simple”.
The University of Kentucky softball team came up just short of a perfect performance in the SEC tournament; making it to the final game, only to lose to UGA by 3 runs.
The Kentucky Wildcats beat the UCLA Bruins 7 to 1 in the last game of the NCAA tournament to advance to the World Series for the first time in school history.
They will play Louisiana – Lafayette in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Thursday May 29 at 7:00 pm.
