Freshman Trey Winstead fired the team’s lowest round of the weekend with a 4-under par 68 while fellow freshman Jacob Bergeron added a 3-under 69 in Sunday’s final round at Desert Forest Golf Club to lead the LSU Men’s Golf team to fourth place at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Philip Barbaree finished 1-under par 71 with junior All-American Luis Gagne and Nathan Jeansonne both recording matching rounds of 2-over 74 for the round.
The Tigers settled into fourth place in the final team standings in their team-title defense after posting a team round of 6-under 282 on Sunday for a 54-hole score of 2-under 862 for the weekend. Arizona State won the tournament, shooting 7-under par 857, followed by Georgia Tech in second place and Kent State in third place at 5-under 859.
The Tigers return home to action in two weeks in Baton Rouge to play host to their ninth-annual David Toms Intercollegiate on Oct. 7-8 at the University Club.
