Last Saturday the Mercer Bears made history at its first Homecoming game in over 70 years. The Bears quickly seized control early in the second half and crushed the Stetson team until the end of the game, 41-14 in front of a crowd of over 12,000 at Mercer’s own stadium. With an impressive victory the Bears end their season with 10 victories, in addition the Bears also set the NCAA’s all-time record for victories by a pioneer program. This win also slings the Bears (10-2) to a nation-leading 8-0 record at home, giving Mercer the most wins of any NCAA Division I team. For a the first time in 70 years the Mercer Bears sure meant business. John Russ had three touchdowns this game, which brings his season total to an amazing 34 touchdowns. The freshman would end the year with 1,916 passing yards and 903 rushing yards. Until the next year of Mercer Football, let’s go Bears!
