On December 16, 2013 with only two games left before the Holiday break, the West Georgia men’s basketball team faced a ranked University of North Alabama. Going into the match up, North Alabama sat at #24 while the Wolves with a 8-1 record looked to show they deserve the respect of the ranking system. West Georgia got off to an early lead with an 11-2 run and before the first have would end, would make it a 17 point lead. The Loins would show why they are in the top 25 by making an incredible comeback after being down 23 in the second half. The Wolves went nearly 5 minutes without a field goal and shot a mere 30.3% from the field to aid the Lions in the comeback. The Wolves not only struggled with shots, but could not hold on to the ball after commenting countless turnovers. With all the issues the plagued the Wolves in the second half it looked as though they would let this win slip away. With just 16 seconds on the clock and the Score tied at 72, Deonta Stocks would drive and draw the foul. This would set up two free throws in which he sank both. 2.4 seconds left and a prayer full court shot sealed the win for the scrappy Wolves. It was not the pretties win by and means, but it does give the Wolves steam going into the final game before the break against Union. West Georgia now sits in second place in the GSC only behind arch rival Valdosta State. If both teams stay the path that they are on, the match up between the two school on January 9th will be one for the ages.
