8131033OXFORD, Miss. – Looking to continue building off of a strong fall season under first-year head coach Chris Malloy, The Ole Miss men’s golf team will begin its spring season Feb. 23 in Mobile, Alabama at the South Alabama Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama.
“There are a lot of things we wanted to implement with this team from a practice stand point this fall that we really didn’t have a chance to do, so this break was a welcome pause to give some guys some rest and slow down a bit,” Malloy said. “They’ve come back refreshed and really eager to get playing this spring.”

Ole Miss was anchored in the fall by sophomore Ben Wolcott, who led the team with a 71.3 stroke average. The Rebels return five upperclassmen to the team and will be leaning on strong performances from senior Blake Morris during his final spring season. Morris finished the fall on a strong note, firing an impressive career-low single round score of 67-71-65—203 to wrap up the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, where the Rebels took home a fourth-place finish.

“Blake puts high standards on himself, as all good players do, and gained some more confidence this fall,” Malloy said. “He worked very hard in the offseason, and he’ll have a great spring season.”

Malloy is excited to get the spring season underway to start the process of bringing his alma mater back to the nation’s elite, and he’s confident in his plan and his players.

“I told them at our first meeting, if they have as much confidence in themselves as I have in them, then we’ll be okay. We’re creating a different culture here, and they’re starting to see just how good they are.”

Ole Miss will compete in five tournaments this spring including a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on March 1-3.
