The Ole Miss Softball Rebels have been really busy up until this week, playing four SEC series so far and nearly 40 games. The week off they’re enjoying was much needed for the tired and somewhat banged up team.
The Rebels are coming off being swept at South Carolina last weekend, and look ahead to a mid-week series against Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La. and then a five game home stretch against Kentucky and Alcorn State.
The Rebels are 19-18 on the year, and 3-9 in arguably the most difficult softball conference in the nation. Around the mid-way point of the year, the Rebs have already played the No. 1 and No. 9 teams in the country.
Led by Senior pitchers Carly Hummel and Shelby Jo Fenter the Ole Miss pitching staff has had some strong pitching outings, backed by a team average 3.31 ERA. Seven of the losses for the veteran group have come when trailing by two runs or less, which is good if you look back to the program a few years ago.
Four Ole Miss batters are batting over .350 on the year, and Senior RT Cantillo is rocking a .495 with two home runs. Six more batters after that are sporting a batting average over .250, which is a consistent bat for a team who scores a lot of runs.
After this week off, the Rebels hit the road to Hammond, La. before hosting the Kentucky Wildcats in a three game series starting April 11 at 6:00 PM.
