The East Carolina Pirates football team is halfway through their regular conference season as one of the rookie members of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), and so far it has been nothing but exciting for this Pirate team.
Between it being their first year in the AAC and the success they are having on the field everyone is falling under a “purple haze”.
The East Carolina Pirates are currently ranked first overall in the AAC and they are also ranked number 18 overall in the AP poll.
The Pirates currently hold a 2-0 conference record and 5-1 overall record. The Pirates were able to hold their weight against UNC and Virginia Tech which hail from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), considered being one of the top conferences next to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) where the Pirates caught their only loss of the season to South Carolina. But, with a score of 23-33 the Pirates didn’t exactly make it easy for the Gamecocks.
With all this success, East Carolina has caught a lot of media attention. The American Footballs twitter page has a quote from head coach Ruffin McNeil stating, “It brings attention to our university, but also to Greenville and to Eastern NC.” regarding the newly founded attention.
Quarterback Shane Carden was recently interviewed by ESPN and wide reciever Justin Hardy was featured on ESPNs top 10 plays with a catch he made against SMU.
The Pirates seem to be rising to the occasion and shocking the college football world and living up to their newly founded motto “UNDAUNTED”.
