    Reinhardt Eagles Basketball

    Head Coach: Jason Gillespie

    2014-15 Record: 18-12 (9-9)

Facility: James and Sis Brown Athletic Center

    Overview

Coach Jason Gillespie enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Reinhardt Eagles men’s basketball team. Gillespie has compiled a record of 47 wins and 42 losses at RU, including a 30-22 mark in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. In 13 seasons as a head coach at the collegiate level he has an overall record of 213-171. Last season, the Eagles finished with an 18-12 mark, going 9-9 in conference action. Reinhardt’s 2014-15 campaign ended in the AAC tournament semifinals, where they were defeated by Union College 86-70.

This season the Eagles will rely heavily on returning senior guards Corey Ricks and Justin Zachary. Ricks led Reinhardt in scoring with an average of 16.1 points per game, while Zachary followed closely behind with 12.7. The sharpshooting Zachary shot nearly 40% from beyond the arc, making 61 of his 153 three point field goal attempts. Ricks made 35% of his three pointers, shooting 53% from the floor and receiving first-team All Appalachian Athletic Conference honors. The talented duo led the high scoring Eagle offense which averaged an outstanding 84.3 points per game, good enough for a 10th place ranking among NAIA Division II schools.

Reinhardt must find replacements for Matt Porter and Ira Hughley, the two seniors from last year’s squad. Porter, a 6’7 forward, played both on the perimeter and in the post. He shot just under 50% from the floor, and pulled down 7.2 rebounds per contest. Ira Hughley primarily played guard for the Eagles and was third on the team in average steals per game with 1.43. Look for junior Nehemiah Jones to fill the void left by Hughley. Jones averaged a respectable 6.2 points per game, seeing action in 30 contests. If Perie Finley can stay healthy, he will fill in for Matt Porter. Finley’s season was cut short after 16 games due to a torn Achilles. In those 16 games he scored 10.3 points a game, while collecting 4.9 rebounds. Finley will need to step up early if the Eagles want to have success in the post.

Reinhardt opens it’s 2015-16 season at home against the LaGrange College Panthers on Wednesday, October 27, 2015. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM EST from the James and Sis Brown Athletic Center.
