Kennesaw State University traveled to Moon Township, Pennsylvania to face off with Robert Morris University. The KSU Owls came into the game with a 6 game-winning streak, and remained perfect in the Big South conference. The RMU Colonials hosted the match with a record of 3-4, and a 7 home game-winning streak. The Owls ran over the Colonials with a final score of 45-21, extending their winning streak, and breaking RMU’s home game-winning streak.
On KSU’s first play of their possession of the game, Owls quarterback Xavier Shepherd, connected with senior wide receiver ,Caleb O’Neal, for a 48 yard pass. This pass completion led to Nykeem Farrow’s touchdown run and a 7-0 lead.
Robert Morris attempted to answer Kennesaw’s touchdown by driving down the field. Unfortunately for the Colonials the ball was fumbled on the 6-yard line, and recovered by linebacker, Xavier Reddick. KSU’s drive after the fumble ended with a 29-yard O’Neal touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, Kennesaw led Robert Morris 14-0.
In the second quarter, the Colonials worked their way down the field, and scored a touchdown. On KSU’s next possession, they put themselves back in a 14 point lead when Shepherd connected with O’Neal again with 55 seconds left in the half. The Owls led by a score of 21-7 at halftime.
At the start of the half, both teams went three and out their first possession of the ball. This is about the point where tension between the teams really started to rise. Penalties were flying on both sides, and viewers could definitely see the emotion on both sides.
In the second half KSU running back Gabriel Benyard, KSU recorded the longest rush of his career, racing 49 yards for a touchdown that increased the Owls lead.
During the fourth quarter, Owls kicker Nathan Robertson, became the 12th kicker in the Big South Conference’s history to score 200 career points. He also set a personal career record for longest field goal making a 48 yard attempt.
The Kennesaw State Owls triumphed over the Robert Morris Colonials with a final score of 45-21, and now remain undefeated in the Big South Conference. They hope to continue this streak next week as they travel to Florence, Alabama, for a matchup with North Alabama(2-7). The game is set for November 13th at 3 p.m., and you won’t want to miss when the conference-undefeated Owls challenge the Lions!
