Wednesday, February 5, new Head Coach Willie Fritz announced his first signing class with the Georgia Southern Eagles at the Parrish Football Center. All students, faculty and staff were encouraged to come out to the event to meet the new coaching staff as well as the signed players. This event introduced the new athletes as well as highlighted the improvements made in the renovation on Paulson Stadium, which is expected to be complete by the 2014 season.
The event began at 6 p.m. with an introduction from Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein. Fritz welcomed 17 new players to his roster this past Wednesday, along with three players who signed mid-year to bring the total number of athletes to 20 for this upcoming fall season. After their introductions, each assistant coach presented a highlight video and spoke briefly about the newest Eagles. Immediately following this induction, Fritz, his staff and the new Eagles met fans and alumni at Locos Grill and Pub for a meet and greet reception.
This upcoming signing class will be Georgia Southern’s first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) class. Fritz is ready for the challenge next season and believes these new athletes will help the team reach their goals. “I’m very excited about this historic day,” said Fritz. “Our 2014 Signing Class represents young men who had previously committed to Georgia Southern before I was hired, student-athletes who provide immediate assistance to the positions we need, and those who are talented enough to compete at the FBS level on the field and in the classroom.”
