ATLANTA (January 30, 2018) – Since Clark Atlanta debuted in the Regional Poll on Jan. 10, the conference has been unstoppable and has solidified both regional and national rankings for three consecutive weeks according to D2SIDA and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
This week, according D2SIDA Top 25, Morehouse is ranked No. 8 and Clark Atlanta debuted for the first time at No. 21. In the regional poll, Morehouse secured its No. 1 spot as Clark Atlanta came in at No. 4, Claflin at No. 9, and Benedict tied for No. 10.
Morehouse is No. 7 and Clark Atlanta is No. 21, according to NABC released Jan. 30.
Morehouse College Men’s Basketball – #1 Regional Poll; #8 D2SIDA Top 25; #7 NABC Top 25
Morehouse, the only undefeated team in major college basketball, moved up to #7 and #8 in the national polls of Top 25 teams just released by the NABC and D2SIDA.
Since last week’s polls, by the coaches and sports information directors associations, the Maroon Tigers extended their school record win streak to 18-0, with an overtime win over Benedict (17-5) and a road win against Paine 4-16.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches’ poll moves the Tigers up three spots from last week, to #7.
In the D2SIDA regionals polls, released yesterday, Morehouse remains at #1 in the South Region, for the second straight week.
Clark Atlanta (18-1) is the only other SIAC team to make the Top 25 national polls. Morehouse will play the CAU Panthers, February 8, at their place, and on February 22, at Forbes Arena.
At 13-0, in conference play, Morehouse owns the #1 spot in the SIAC.
Morehouse will travel to Orangeburg, SC, Wednesday, at 8 p.m., to take on the Claflin University Panthers (17-5; 10-4).
Clark Atlanta Men’s Basketball – #4 Regional Poll; #21 D2SIDA Top 25; #21 NABC Top 25
After securing their 14th consecutive win, the Panthers have made yet another debut in the D2SIDA Top 25 and the NABC Top 25 Polls.
The Panthers have secured the No. 4 spot in this week’s regional poll as they have been ranked for the fourth time this season.
In both the D2SIDA and NABC Top 25, the Clark Atlanta Panthers secured the No. 21 spot. This is the Panther’s first appearance in the NABC rankings since Nov. 23, 2010.
Clark Atlanta Panthers are back in action this weekend as they travel to Columbia, S.C. to face No. 10 conference opponent, Benedict College. Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Claflin Men’s Basketball – #9 Regional Poll
Despite the struggling these past few games, Claflin men’s basketball has been ranked No. 9, released by D2SIDA.
Claflin Panthers, currently 17-5; 10-4 SIAC, received 11 points, in spite of being No. 7 in last week’s poll.
The Panthers will host Morehouse College tomorrow (Jan. 31) to snap the losing streak. Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
Benedict Men’s Basketball – #10 Regional Poll
The Benedict College men’s basketball team is ranked tied for 10th in this week’s D2SIDA South Region men’s basketball poll.
Benedict, now 16-5 on the season, received six points in this week’s ranking. The Tigers take on Fort Valley State on Monday night.
The Men’s Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, is in its fourth year of existence. The regional poll is released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters – 2 from each region. The South Region consists of teams from the SIAC, Sunshine State Conference and the Gulf South Conference.
