Albany State softball travels to Orangeburg, South Carolina this weekend for the SIAC/CIAA challenge where they will play a total of 5 games . They will play their games Saturday against Bluefield State College, Virginia State University, and Bowie State University. Then on Sunday they will take on Livingstone College and Shaw University. The Golden Rams enter this slate of weekend games sitting exactly at .500 on the season with a 4-4 record. They took a few close losses in their first couple of games such as Montreat College 3-1 and Paine College 5-3.  Although there have been a few inconsistencies for this team, they have showcased that there is a lot of promise going forward. This weekend can be used to gain momentum for the rest of the upcoming season. Momentum which they can build off of as they look to start a significant early season winning streak.

Some of the key contributors to look out for this weekend are Romona McLeod who leads the team in RBI’s with 6 and ERA with a 0.58, also Madison Hurt who leads the team with 11 hits and 6 steals. The two players have been bright spots for the Golden Rams and they will be needed to step up in this big cross conference showdown. This tournament really will show how well this team stacks up against teams from a really strong conference in the CIAA.

The Golden Rams are trending in the right direction though and I expect to see a team that is focused and ready to play some of their best games of the season this weekend. I know that this team is constantly trying to improve and find ways to secure a few victories. I think this because they stated that they want a conference title on their resume. So, with that being said and being familiar with some of the players I know they don’t just want to take a trip to South Carolina and play some games, but they want to go and compete at a high level and win games.
