ATLANTA, Ga (January 23, 2018) – After yesterday’s showdown between the regionally ranked teams, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) secured two national rankings this week from D2SIDA and from the National Association Basketball Coaches (NABC).
This week, Morehouse is ranked No. 11 from previously being ranked at No. 15 last week, while Clark Atlanta broke into the poll at No. 22, according to D2SIDA.
In the recent poll, released by the NABC, Morehouse made its first top 10 appearance since 1990.
This week, Morehouse is ranked No. 10 from previously being ranked No. 14, while Claflin is ranked No. 24 from previously being ranked at No. 20 in NABC’s Top 25 Poll.
Morehouse College Men’s Basketball – #11 D2SIDA Top 25 Poll; #10 NABC Top 25
Climbing higher and higher, Morehouse has moved up the National Association of Basketball Coaches national poll to #10 and up to #11 in the D2SIDA national poll of Top 25 teams.
The uptick in the polls includes games through January 21 and does not include last night’s thrilling overtime win over Benedict (15-5).
As of Jan. 21, Morehouse has dominated the conference recently finishing their road stance defeating, eastern division foes, Fort Valley State and Albany State before returning home to defeat Claflin pushing them to a perfect 17-0 record.
The Maroon Tigers are scheduled to travel to Augusta, Ga. to face off against Paine College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Clark Atlanta Men’s Basketball – #22 D2SIDA Top 25 Poll
The Clark Atlanta Panthers have advanced to their 13th straight win as they recently defeated Benedict and Claflin.
The Panthers are featured for the first time this season in the D2SIDA Top 25 Poll as they have come in at No. 22. Clark Atlanta has been regionally ranked in the past three polls and have made their debut in Top 25 poll.
The only other SIAC team ranked in the Top 25 poll is Morehouse who is sitting at No. 11. CAU is scheduled to host Morehouse on Feb. 8 at L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
The Panthers (18-1; 12-0 SIAC) are back in action as they face off against eastern division opponent, Paine College, in Augusta, Ga. on Jan. 29 at 8 p.m.
Claflin Men’s Basketball – #24 NABC Top 25
For their second consecutive week, Claflin University’s men’s basketball has been ranked according to the NABC NCAA Division II Top 25 Rankings. The Panthers reappeared in this week’s poll at No. 24 released Tuesday, Jan. 23, after previously being ranked No. 20 in last week’s poll.
Despite falling to Morehouse and Clark Atlanta, the Claflin Panthers are still ranked No. 7 in the Southern Region with a 17-3 (10-2 SIAC) record.
Claflin’s men’s basketball return to action on Jan. 27 as they host Fort Valley State at Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center. Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
