Katie Byrd and Taylor Denton each drove in two runs, while Jessie Mullen and Noelle Winkles each scored twice to lead Kennesaw State to a 9-1 five-inning victory over Samford Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala.
Logan Viers (8-4) allowed one run over three innings and Abby Green worked two innings of scoreless relief to help the Owls improve to 25-9 on the season.
Kennesaw State received contributions throughout its lineup as nine different individuals accounted for the Owls’ nine hits.
KSU took advantage of three Bulldog errors to score five times in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Denton had a two-run double and Katey Lynch capped the scoring with a run-scoring single. KSU extended its lead to 8-0 in the third, with the big blow, a two-run double by Olivia Tamewitz.
Kira Czyrklis drove in the Owls’ final run with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Kennesaw State returns to ASUN Conference play on Saturday when it hosts USC Upstate in a doubleheader at Bailey Park. The first game begins at 1 p.m. (ET).
