Clemson baseball begins tomorrow, February 14th with a three-game series against Eastern Michigan. In honor of opening day, here is a little Throwback Thursday from 1902.

What many don’t know is that legendary football coach John Heisman was also a Clemson baseball coach for a short spell from 1899-1904. Heisman is known as a former head coach of the gridiron Clemson Tigers and the namesake of the ever famous Heisman Trophy— awarded to the most outstanding player in football each year. While Heisman was coaching football at Clemson, he also led the baseball team to a 28-6-1 record from 1901-1903. That’s pretty darn good in baseball terms! Heisman was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1954.
