ATLANTA (January 10, 2018) – The Morehouse basketball program is moving steadily up the national and regional polls that rank Division II teams.
In the latest ranking by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the 13-0 Maroon Tigers have risen to #20, up from #25 last week. This is the first time Morehouse has been listed nationally, in the Top 25, since the 1994-95 team rose to #15.
The D2SIDA poll has Morehouse at #18, in its national Top 25 poll, and at #3, in the South Region poll, conducted by sports information directors. Last week, Morehouse was at #8 in the D2SIDA regional poll and was unranked in the national poll.
Morehouse is riding an historic win streak to start the season, surpassing the previous best season-start record of 7-0, set by the 1988-89 team.
With an 8-0 conference record, the Maroon Tigers are the #2 team in the East Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, behind Claflin 16-1; 9-0, and ahead of Clark Atlanta, 14-1; 8-0.
The Maroon Tigers travel to Fort Valley, GA, Saturday, at 3 p.m., to play the Fort Valley State Wildcats.
With a win over the Wildcats, 9-8; 6-3, Morehouse would tie the school’s best-ever streak of 14 consecutive wins, set in the 2012-13 season.
The next home game is Saturday, January 20, when the East Division-leading Claflin University Panthers, visit Forbes Arena.
All Morehouse home games are free and open to the public.
