Tookie Brown has been named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List, presented annually to the nation’s top mid-major Division I player, it was announced today.
It’s the second consecutive season Brown has been named to the list, and the senior is one of four student-athletes from the Sun Belt to receive the recognition, joining Jakeenan Gant (Louisiana), D’Marcus Simonds (Georgia State) and Jordan Varnado (Troy).
Brown is averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 assists and four rebounds this season. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Nov. 20, after leading the Eagles to the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase title and earning tournament MVP honors as well as all-tournament accolades.
Currently ranked seventh nationally among active Division I players in career scoring, he is 62 points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in Georgia Southern’s Division I era and ranks 16th on the Sun Belt’s career scoring list.
The 2019 Lou Henson Award will be presented at the College Insider awards event in April at the site of the men’s Division I national championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Eagles, who have started the campaign 5-1, travel to Arizona. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m., and the game will air live on the PAC12 network.
