The Albany State Track and Field team will compete in its first outdoor competition of the year, at the Eye Opener Invitational on Saturday, Events for the competition will begin at 10 a.m. at Savannah State Stadium.

    Previewing the Rams

With records broken and a strong position in the polls, the Golden Rams had a strong start to their outside campaign. The team finished third overall in the outdoor division last year, the Rams are eager to compete thanks to a number of veterans who are returning and newcomers.

Ed Gilbert and Sydney Blackburn are two Golden Rams to be highlighted. Having competed in the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships, both athletes are intent on returning and bringing more teammates with them. Both Blackburn and Gilbert will be competing in their first events Saturday. Sydney Blackburn will be throwing the discus for the second time. His performance last year was anticipated, according to head coach Kenneth Taylor, but Gilbert’s performance last season took everyone off guard, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store this year.
