ROME, Ga. – The inaugural football team at Berry College has already begun entertaining crowds. More than 100 Berry College football players shocked the incoming class with a flash-mob that erupted during Berry’s new student opening ceremony on Thursday.
The team rushed the basketball court of the Cage Athletic Center in front of students, parents, coaches, faculty and staff. The team’s choreographed dance included a scene where the players collectively rowed an imaginary Viking ship; following along with the slogan “No one rides this Viking ship, we all row.”
The Vikings have been practicing since mid-August for the first football season which will begin at Barron Stadium in Rome, Ga. when Berry takes on Maryville College on Sept. 7. The team is led by Head Coach Tony Kunczewski who helped build La Grange College’s first football program in 2006. Two years later, La Grange had a 9-2 record which notched the largest single-season improvement in NCAA Division III football history.
