1st Half
The first half started in a back and forth fashion, as the Wolves led by a score of 19-17 after 1 quarter. Union started to heat up in the 2nd period, draining four 3 pointers as a team after shooting 0-4 from beyond the arc in the 1st period. By the end of the first half the Bulldogs surged to a 10 point lead 37-27. Emily Beard was scorching from downtown in this period, knocking down three bombs from the outside in this quarter alone. Jada Smith also showcased a very efficient floor game in the first half, finishing the half with 10 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 0 turnovers. For the Wolves, Ashley Lee had a strong half finishing with 8 points and 7 rebounds. The story of the first half was the points in the paint advantage for the Bulldogs (UNI 20-UWG 6) which resulted in them having a considerably higher FG% (UNI 47% – UWG 26%).
2nd Half
UNI took control of the game in the 3rd quarter, winning the quarter 25-12 to take a commanding 62-39 lead into the 4th. The Bulldogs used this 3rd quarter push to cruise to the finish line with a victory. The final score showed the Bulldogs prevailing 79-50. Jada Smith was masterful all game long finishing with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 0(!!!!) turnovers. Emily Beard also impressed with her quick release and accuracy from downtown totaling 17 points for the game, five 3 pointers made. Shanique Lucas also added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The biggest difference in the game was points in the paint (UNI 38 – UWG 14) and field goal percentage (UNI 44.8%-UWG 23.9%). The Bulldogs were able to get this win by getting more quality looks from the field and being more efficient.
